Home Theater Wires and Cables

Having installed your home theater you naturally want to get the best out of the speaker system to get the best possible sound quality. You can get that with a small investment buy getting the best quality speaker wires.

There may be times when you want to upgrade to the optimum speaker wires to improve overall sound quality. Choosing speaker wires however is not rocket science but there are simple rules that you need to follow for the audio and hi-fi system.

When selecting speaker wires, expensive does not necessarily mean the best; the mantra is to buy speaker wires that suit your audio system and make an audible difference to sound quality. The quality of speaker wire is determined by its gauge or the size of the copper wire in the casing; lower the gauge, thicker the wire. Selection of speaker wire depends largely on the reputation of the manufacturer and the level of sound quality to wish to obtain within the budget. A rule of the thumb reference is that you need a 16-gauge wire if the distance from the speaker to the home theater system is less than 60 feet, 14 gauge if it is between 60 and 180 feet and 12 gauge if more than 180 feet.

Similarly, for a true cinema-like experience you want crystal clear picture quality by using high-quality cables and ensuring appropriate cables for making connections. Almost every manufacturer provides relevant cables along with the device. You do not have a choice in that. What you need to do is that note the number of each cable that connects the TV, AV receiver and input device/s with each other and buy a spare in case of emergency.

You might have to buy High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) separately in case you have a high definition TV.
